Pink October 2020
We are marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2020 with 31 of the many special women and men who come through the doors in some
capacity here at the Worcestershire Breast Unit.
This is Lyn:
“My name is Lyn Checketts and I am a volunteer at the Worcestershire Breast Unit Tuesday morning new referrals clinic. I retired from my teaching career 4 years ago and immediately took on this regular commitment encouraged by Jacquie one of the charity administrators.
The charity was particularly important to me as my mum and far too many former friends and colleagues had been affected by this disease.
What do I do? My role involves freeing up the nurses to do the job they do best: nurse. I help to organise the appointments for that day’s clinic, act as a guide for patients and relatives, make tea and hopefully offer a smile and support where I can.
Afternoon teas, Garden mornings and Christmas Carol Services are just some of the other events that have needed help too in the on going need to fundraise for the fantastic resource we have.
Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and all the staff are completely inspiring. Their dedication to the work they do, the time they spend with patients and their caring approach (with a lot of smiles and humour) is always apparent. During these extraordinary times the Breast Unit has not closed and the charity has continued its work. They are all simply marvellous and the people of Worcestershire are so lucky to have this facility.”
