An international fitness initiative for cancer patients is coming to Worcestershire for the first time.
5K Your Way is a community initiative open to all and free to take part, linked to the global ParkRun. Worcestershire’s only breast cancer charity, the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven (WBUH) charity and Beata Payne, former patient of the Unit and her husband are the driving forces in bringing 5K Your Way to Worcestershire.
The Worcestershire 5K Your Way launches at 9am (arrive for 8.45) on Saturday 30 April at Pitchcroft (venue for one of the Worcester ParkRuns).
Jacquie Clements from the WBUH charity and Beata and Matt Payne are the official 5K Your Way ambassadors in Worcestershire.
Jacquie Clements explains: “The initiative aims to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, their families, friends and those working in cancer services to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at our local Pitchcroft 5K Your Way Parkrun event on the last Saturday of the month,” she said.
Beata Payne adds: “It is up to each individual whether they want to walk and talk, run or mix it up. You may only want to do part of the walk or just come to chat and gently stroll. You can stay and have a coffee afterwards, and meet others with a cancer diagnosis. It really is a superb means of support for those living with cancer.”
5K Your Way is a non medical initiative – please see the T&Cs for further details. On the 5K Your Way website are lots of resources and a plan for building up to a 5K walk or run. To take part, register online first at ParkRun and bring your barcode.
Look out for Jacquie, Beata and Matt wearing official blue 5k Your Way hoodies.
