Pink October 2020
We are marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2020 with 31 of the many special women and men who come through the doors in some
capacity here at the Worcestershire Breast Unit.
“I am Julie Weston, one of the Nurse Practitioners working in the Worcestershire Breast Service. I have been a breast care nurse for 18 years and the role has grown and developed in a way I could never have imagined. I love my job and it is a privilege to work in such an amazing service; on a daily basis my patients make me feel humble.
Along with my colleagues I have been very involved in Bosom Friends Support Group which was formed in 1996 by my recently retired colleague Mandy Batten who is very much missed. This very important group has met on the 3rd Tuesday of every month for the past 24 years until COVID intervened but support has continued online via our Facebook group and the online activity organised by the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven making this difficult time more bearable.
As well as lots of invaluable support and information Bosom Friends has done a lot of fundraising and in the region of £40,000 has been raised for local services including Worcestershire Breast Unit, our local hospice and to fund equipment for the Breast Service in Worcestershire including a breast coil for the MRI scanner at the Alex. We have hosted 9 fashion shows which have been spectacular events, as well as raising important funds it gives a huge confidence boost to the models, ladies and gentleman who have all been treated for breast cancer within Worcestershire and it is an inspiration to the audience, they are truly moving events.
Please sponsor the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven for ‘Pink October’ this month. Every penny raised really will make a difference to us. Thank you!”
