Ormerod Rutter Bake Sale Raises a Delicious Donation of £1500 for Local Breast Cancer Charity
Ormerod Rutter pulled out all stops, along with their oven gloves to deliver a recipe for success the other week. The compassionate team baked their way to raising over £1500 for local breast cancer charity the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven (WBUH) in Worcester.
Inspired by their colleague, Sarah Batkin, who has been a patient at the Unit, the accountancy firm hosted an impressive bake sale to raise vital funds for WBUH which is the only breast cancer charity in Worcestershire
The Worcestershire Breast Unit has supported 13,000 women and men in Worcestershire, from diagnosis through to treatment and post-treatment, since it opened its doors in 2016. As an independent charity, WBUH is entirely reliant on fundraising, and needs to raise more than £200,000 per year to provide its services.
Sarah is currently in remission after undergoing treatment for breast cancer last year and wanted to raise funds to help the charity, following the support they have provided her.
“Being diagnosed with breast cancer is indescribable. But facing a diagnosis and treatment through the recent pandemic has felt very isolating at times. The Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven charity supported me from diagnosis and continues to provide me with practical and emotional support at each stage of my treatment and recovery.”
“My colleagues have also been incredibly supportive, and I was overwhelmed by their encouragement to host the bake sale in both our Droitwich and Bromsgrove offices,” explained Sarah.
The team of determined accountants baked an array of treats and the whole firm got behind their efforts with an incredible pink themed raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, to help raise money for this life changing support.
800 women and 7 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in Worcestershire every year. The charity aims to make the Worcestershire Breast Unit accessible to everyone who needs it, by creating one of the best units in the UK and providing the best possible care. As well as providing a range of wellbeing support to patients they also work to provide specialist equipment for the unit including a recent purchase of a £5000 Breast MRI Coil which helps to significantly improve MRI Imaging and four portable ultrasound machines to help increase the chance of early diagnosis.
Lexi Craigie, Charity Director for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, said “the team at Ormerod Rutter has gone above and beyond to raise such a fantastic amount of money for this vital service. They have done a brilliant job and we are extremely grateful for their commitment and support – it really does make a difference to the lives of the women and men who we exist to support.”
